# Workspaces

Source: https://athas.dev/docs/workspaces

Open project folders, switch between projects, and keep worktrees or remote workspaces separate.

A workspace is the set of projects you have open in a single Athas window.

## Create a Workspace

- Open Athas and click the **+** button to add your first project
- Drag and drop a folder onto the editor window

## Manage Workspace Projects

- Add a project with the **+** button or by dragging a folder
- Switch projects by clicking their tabs
- Reorder tabs by dragging them
- Close a project using the tab’s close button (X)

Project tabs are restored when you restart Athas.

Git worktrees open through the same workspace flow. See [Worktrees](https://athas.dev/docs/git-worktrees) for
opening separate branch checkouts in the current window or a new Athas window.

On Windows, WSL projects also open through the project picker. See [WSL](https://athas.dev/docs/wsl) for opening
Linux distribution paths such as `/home/me/project`.

## Choose the correct project

Commands, search and Git actions depend on the active project. Check its path before running a build or starting an agent. Use [Remote connections](https://athas.dev/docs/remote) for SSH/SFTP, [WSL](https://athas.dev/docs/wsl) for Linux projects on Windows, and the [CLI](https://athas.dev/docs/cli) to open a specific folder.
