# Updates

Source: https://athas.dev/docs/updates

Update Athas with the built-in updater or your package manager, and recover from installation problems.

Stable releases are the default for everyday work. Read the release notes before updating.

## Check for updates

Open **Settings > General** to check for a new desktop release. Save your work before applying
an update and restarting. Review the [changelog](https://athas.dev/docs/changelog) for changes relevant to your platform.

If you installed Athas through Homebrew, the community AUR package, Nix or a Linux package manager, you can also
update through that same manager. Follow the [installation guide](https://athas.dev/docs/installation) for manual packages.

## Update failures

Check network access and available disk space. If the updater cannot finish, download the correct
installer from [Download Athas](https://athas.dev/download) and reinstall the application. Reinstalling the app and
deleting your user data are separate actions; back up settings before intentionally resetting data.

Include the current version, offered version, platform, CPU architecture and error when reporting
an update problem. See [Troubleshooting](https://athas.dev/docs/troubleshooting).
